Keep your curiosity growing
Coming Up.
More climate stories to share with your class—and opportunities to meet, exchange ideas and try something new.
Each Series 2 episode deepens the science in the preceding two Core episodes, with real-world applications and positive opportunities for KS2 and early KS3 learners.

Core 6 · Illustrated video
Warming and Water
Warmer air can hold more water vapour, helping explain why climate change can bring both heavier rain and faster drying.

Can Nature Help Fix the Climate?
Builds on Core 5 and 6: explore forests, carbon storage and the water cycle, and how restoring natural systems can help people and wildlife.
Core 7 · Illustrated video
The Ocean Engine
Oceans absorb heat and carbon dioxide, warming the water and changing its chemistry in ways that affect marine life.

- Core 8 · Illustrated video
Ice and Albedo
Ice and snow reflect sunlight, so melting exposes darker surfaces that absorb more heat and speed up warming.
- Series 2 · Episode 4 · Video podcast
Can We Protect the Oceans and the Polar Regions?
Builds on Core 7 and 8: explore ocean heat, ice and reflectivity, and practical opportunities to protect marine and polar ecosystems.

Helping KS2 children understand climate change: practical lessons
Friday 8 January 2027 · 13:35–14:30 GMT
LH229 · Learning Hub Level 2 · University of NorthamptonClimate change is now part of everyday classroom conversation, yet many primary teachers still feel uncertain about how best to explain complex climate topics in a balanced, age-appropriate and scientifically confident way.
This highly practical and interactive workshop draws on lessons learned through delivering climate workshops to KS2 pupils in primary schools across the Midlands, together with the development of The Climate Classroom educational podcast and companion educational materials.
The session will focus on practical, classroom-tested approaches for helping children understand key climate ideas clearly: what greenhouse gases do, why the planet is warming, how food, transport and materials connect to climate, and how solutions and innovation can be discussed without creating fear or confusion.
Participants will experience adaptable techniques including role play, discussion prompts, short quizzes, visual imagery and simple explanation frameworks designed for KS2 and early KS3 pupils.
The session will also consider how teachers can prepare well using reliable materials and trusted scientific sources, while still responding honestly to unexpected pupil questions that may need follow-up after the lesson.
Sources discussed will include NASA, NOAA, the IPCC, the WMO and the UK Met Office.
Participants will leave with practical classroom strategies, classroom-tested activity ideas, greater confidence in discussing climate change, and examples of freely accessible climate literacy resources suitable for KS2 and early KS3 classrooms.
- Core 9 · Illustrated video
The Rising Sea
Warmer seawater expands and melting land ice adds water to the ocean, raising sea levels and coastal flood risks.
- Core 10 · Illustrated video
Heatwaves, Drought and Fire
A warmer climate can intensify heatwaves, dry the land faster and create more dangerous fire weather in some regions.
- Series 2 · Episode 5 · Video podcast
How Can We Live With a Changing Climate?
Builds on Core 9 and 10: connect rising seas and extreme weather with practical ways to prepare, adapt and protect communities.
- Core 11 · Illustrated video
Animals in Changing Habitats
Changing habitats affect animals’ food, water and shelter, while wildlife corridors can help them move and adapt.
- Core 12 · Illustrated video
Food and Climate
Food has a climate footprint from farming through to our plates, and wasting less food is one practical way to reduce it.
- Series 2 · Episode 6 · Video podcast
Can We Feed the World Without Harming Nature?
Builds on Core 11 and 12: connect habitats, food webs and farming with opportunities to produce food while supporting nature.
- Core 13 · Illustrated video
Transport Choices & Climate
Travel choices have different climate footprints, and shared transport and cleaner energy can help reduce emissions from our journeys.
- Core 14 · Illustrated video
The Hidden Carbon in Things
Everyday objects create emissions before we use them, through mining and manufacturing, while repair and reuse can keep materials useful for longer.
- Series 2 · Episode 7 · Video podcast
Can We Travel and Make Things More Sustainably?
Builds on Core 13 and 14: explore how a circular economy reduces waste through better design, repair, reuse and recycling, with cleaner transport as one part of living more sustainably.
- Core 15 · Illustrated video
Homes, Buildings & Climate
Buildings affect the climate through their materials and energy use, while better design, insulation and cleaner energy can reduce their footprint.
- Core 16 · Illustrated video
Your Climate Toolkit
Small practical actions, shared ideas and climate-related careers give young people ways to help shape a cleaner future.
- Series 2 · Episode 8 · Video podcast
Who Will Build a Greener World?
Builds on Core 15 and 16: apply the science of buildings and everyday choices to practical projects, skills and positive opportunities for the future.
